Vicki Gunn is once again representing the Christian Heritage Party in York-Simcoe.

Mrs. Gunn was the party’s candidate in the 2004 and 2006 elections.

A resident of Sharon since 1978, Mrs. Gunn is also the party’s executive director and national campaign training director, meaning she will travel extensively throughout the campaign assisting other Christian Heritage Party candidates.

“I am concerned over the gradual decline in our right to speak and believe freely without interference from government and non-governmental organizations,” Mrs. Gunn said.

“I would like to see Canada return to an objective standard of right and wrong.

A standard which is clear and unchanging and a standard based on unequivocal laws. I believe the (Christian Heritage Party) offers this to Canadians. If elected, I will serve the people of York-Simcoe with energy, imagination and integrity.

“I am disillusioned with the Canadian political parties currently in office,” Mrs. Gunn said. “For many years, our leaders have been willing to negotiate right and wrong, moving the boundary of acceptable well into the realm of unacceptable.”

Mrs. Gunn’s view on the state of the economy is as follows:

“I believe we have to be really proactive in dealing with our economy. We know we are facing a demographic challenge due to our aging population. The Conservative reduction of the GST did not in any way benefit the lowest income earners because it only benefits those who have money left over at the end of their paycheques for extras. We are offering a fair tax which encourages saving. If you are spending, you pay tax on the ‘luxury’ items.”

Mrs. Gunn said the national debt must be dealt with.

“The Conservative government has paid lip service with a paltry $3 billion annual budget for the debt. We will make a monthly payment of $4 billion and have it repaid in about 25 years.”

The Christian Heritage Party would implement an Infrastructure stimulus package, modeled after a plan used after the Second World War and would order the Bank of Canada to loan, interest free, money to provinces and municipalities to improve their infrastructure.

“We also have strong policies to support families, such as protection of life from conception to natural death, family-friendly childcare allowance and the protection of traditional marriage,” Mrs. Gunn adds.

Over the past 35 years, Mrs. Gunn has been employed by Royal Bank, rising to the rank of branch administration officer, Ontario Community and Social Services as a foster parent to young offenders and Bethel Christian Reformed Church as a part-time administrative assistant. She has also operated her own business.

She has an extensive volunteering background with Telecare Teleminsitries of Canada, Bethel Christian Reformed Church and Toastmasters and has served as a teacher’s assistant and librarian.

Within the Christian Heritage Party, Mrs. Gunn has acted as finance critic, intergovernmental affairs critic and secretary for the York-Simcoe riding association.

Mrs. Gunn is married to Stan and the couple has one teenaged daughter.
