While heartened by her strong finish that early on saw her challenge for second place, NDP candidate Sylvia Gerl expressed some disappointment that more York-Simcoe voters aren't getting her party's message.

"I heard from lots of new voters and lots of people saying that they were definitely not voting Conservative, which is a shock, because last time everyone who was undecided said they were definitely not voting Liberal. I saw a lot more people this time so I thought I had a better handle on what was going to happen.

"I also saw Van Loan signs coming down during the election. I noticed them becoming fewer and fewer and I thought that, especially with the economy tanking the way it did and Harper saying don't worry about things folks, people actually were definitely not going to choose Conservative."

Ms Gerl said she was surprised by Ms Moses' weak showing.

"I thought because of Liberal support in Bradford, she would be stronger."

Ms Gerl added she is "deeply disappointed that people are still clinging to their outmoded ideas on who the Conservatives are. Van Loan I see as sure he's a good strategist but that doesn't mean he's a good MP."

Ms Gerl said she doesn't know if she will run again, should another minority government prove to be short-lived. "Who knows? I can't predict."
