If you want to take the region’s new transportation plan for a test drive, you will have your chance at a series of public meetings over the next few weeks.

This will be the final series of public consultations for the plan, which puts in place the infrastructure for managing traffic in the face of the coming years of population growth.

“In order to meet our growing travel demands in an economically and environmentally-sustainable manner, York Region must further develop our regional transportation infrastructure,” regional chair and CEO Bill Fisch said.

Aside from roads, the plan deals with everything from carpooling to improved public transit and cycling and walking.

A final plan will go to council for review in January, with final approval expected in April or May.

Two meetings were added to the initial schedule of three, recognizing the importance of transportation issues for local residents.

Each meeting begins with an open house from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a half-hour presentation and a facilitated discussion.
