Do you want to be a Mountie?

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will hold a recruiting open house Saturday at its Newmarket detachment, 345 Harry Walker Pkwy. S., to inform potential applicants about a career in law enforcement.

The open house will run between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

RCMP officers will be available to answer questions about the requirements and application process.

Those attending will also be able to meet members of specialized sections including the emergency response team, explosives disposal unit, forensic identification unit, police dog service, tactical troop, drug section and members who have participated in United Nations missions.

A demonstration of the circuit used by the Mounties to evaluate the physical fitness of applicants will also be held.

To apply to the RCMP you must:

• Be a Canadian citizen;

• Be a minimum of 19-years-old (you can begin the application process at 18);

• Be of good character;

• Be proficient in English or French;

• Hold a secondary school diploma or equivalent;

• Possess a valid Canadian driver’s licence and

• Meet medical and health standards
