Area resident Dennis Warner described it as "the wildest thing I've seen in a while". "The skies went from a haze to a fierce black and then the winds picked up.
For nearly five minutes straight, the cedars in my yard were leaning at a 45-degree angle as a combination of very heavy rain, pea sized hail and tree branches flew about."
While there was no damage to his property, the street is covered in small branches and leaves and ditches are overflowing with water.
"There were some very intense lightening flashes and thunder pretty well right on top of each other," he added.
Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch before the storm rolled in off the lake with winds estimated at up to 90 km/h — as strong as a category 1 hurricane. The warning came after the storm passed.
Torrential rain and lightning accompanied the storm, which lasted just a few minutes before moving east.
