A Georgina man has been charged with impaired driving causing death in connection with a fatal crash in East Gwillimbury earlier this year.
Audrey Smocka, 57, of Georgina was killed June 3 after a northbound red Mazda B4000 pickup truck crossed the centre road line of Woodbine Avenue and slammed into her southbound blue Hyundai Tucson SUV near Boag Road, York Regional Police said.
At the time, Ms Smocka’s death was the third fatal crash in the area in as many weeks.
On Wednesday evening, Thomas Heyd, 47, of Georgina was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood in the case, police confirmed.
The charges have not been proven in court.
