Last weekend’s mini winners walk of hope, in honour of Bradford’s Debbie Antonio, raised more than $5,000 for ovarian cancer research.

However, the group’s tally sits closer to $10,000 as two participants from the National Winners Walk of Hope directed their fundraising efforts to last weekend’s mini walk.

“Despite the drizzling weather, we had an amazing turn out (of) people returning from last year and new faces,” said Gayle Palmer, an event organizer.

Ms Palmer, along with her sister, Brenda Young, started the Aurora mini Winners Walk of Hope last year in support of their sister, Ms Antonio, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

“The organizing committee (is) dedicated to helping Ovarian Cancer Canada in their determination to fund an early detection tool, to raise awareness of the silent symptoms, to support women and their families through the devastation of the disease, and to find a cure,” she added.
