Last week — Last night — At Cobourg Cougars ... Friday — Lost 4-3 at Markham Waxers ... Thursday — Lost 6-3 vs. Hamilton Red Wings ... Monday — Lost 5-2 at Hamilton Red Wings
Coming Up — Thursday vs. Cobourg Cougars, Ray Twinney Complex, 7:30 p.m. ... Sunday vs. Stouffville Spirit, RTC, 3:30 p.m.
Game Notes — The Red Wings completed  a sweep of a home-and-home series. Three power-play goals were the key. Joel Hanley, Daniel Zweep and Chad Sumsion scored for Newmarket which closed to within 4-3 early in the third period ... Sumsion had both Newmarket goals in the loss at Hamilton ... In Markham, Sumsion had two goals and an assist, but missed on a third period penalty shot. Newmarket was outshot 54-39, including 25-11 in the first period.

The Skinny — Sumsion, a Woodstock product who played Jr. B in Stratford last season, has 18 points in 10 games to lead the Newmarket scoring parade ... The Hurricanes launch a three-game homestand Thursday against Cobourg ... To clarify, goaltender Jimmy Sarjeant is a distant relative of former pro netminder Geoff Sarjeant, not a nephew as noted in this space ... Ex-Canes goalie Matt Milne is starring for the Grand Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior A league. The 19-year-old Newmarket native is  4-2 with a 1.83 GAA and .935 save percentage, fourth best in the league. The Storm draws more than 2,000 fans per game, highest of all Jr. A teams in the country, according to the Grand Prairie Daily Herald-Tribune ... The Hurricanes will celebrate old home week when the Stouffville Spirit visit Sunday. Newmarket head coach/general manager Brian Perrin was head coach in Stouffville for several years and director of player personnel Ken Burrows was his assistant coach and then GM in Spiritland. The last-place Spirit lost eight straight before playing in Hamilton last night.

Record — 5-4-1.
