The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired veteran forward Jamal Mayers from the St. Louis Blues yesterday for a third-round pick in this weekend’s National Hockey League amateur entry draft.
A fourth round pick by the Blues in the 1993 draft, Mayers played two seasons with the Thunderbirds, then of the Metro Toronto Junior Hockey League, in 1990-91 and 1991-92.
In his first year with the Thunderbirds, Mayers had 12 goals and 24 assists. He followed with 38 goals and 69 assists in his final season before going to Western Michigan University on a hockey scholarship.
This past season with the Blues, the six-foot, one-inch, 214-pound Mayers had 12 goals and 15 assists in 80 regular season games.
