The Stouffville Mennos mercied Aurora Shoeless Joe’s 10-2 at Memorial Park Thursday.
After serving up a walk, triple and single in the first inning, Mennos pitcher Greg Dalgarno settled down and struck out the side.
Dalgarno also struck out the side in the second inning and did not allow a hit the rest of the way to pick up the win.
He struck out nine batters in five innings of work before the game was halted.
Led by a second-inning bases-loaded double by catcher Dale Boadway and three Shoeless Joe’s errors, the Mennos erupted for six runs and never looked back.
The Mennos added four more runs in the fourth inning. Supplying the big hit was third baseman Scott Eyre, who had a two-run double.
The Mennos belted 10 hits with Boadway collecting three, Jay Nesbitt and Shawn Boadway two each.
Mennos’ shortstop Jeff Boadway also came up with a big defensive play after making a leaping catch of a line drive.
Shoeless Joe’s entered the game down three senior players who are in Wisconsin at the International softball congress World Championships. Among them is their ace hurler, Todd Martin.
The win improved the Mennos’ league record to 13-7.
Earlier in the week, rain forced the postponement of their Oshawa City and District Fastball League game against the Oshawa BB Intermediates.
