A Woodbridge business owner has been fined $8,000 after she was found guilty of failing to pay her employees.

Court heard that in October, 2005, two former employees of Annette Monaco, carrying on business as Budget Home Improvements, filed claims with the Ministry of Labour for unpaid wages totalling $2,651.44, ministry spokesperson stated in a press release Tuesday.

The government issued an order to pay June 1, 2006, which was not appealed and remains in place.

Following a trial, Ms Monaco was found guilty of failing to comply with an order issued by an employment standards officer, contrary to the Employment Standards Act, the ministry said.

In addition to the fine, the court issued a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge on the total, required by the Provincial Offences Act.
