A former Canadian Idol winner headlines a group of performing artists and songwriters from across the country that is writing and recording new tunes in Whitchurch-Stouffville this week.
They are attending a SongWorks session sponsored by the Songwriters Association of Canada at Mysthaven Country Retreat and Spa on Kennedy Road today to Thursday.
The session includes 2005 Canadian idol winner Kalan Porter, 2006 runner-up Rob James, Winnipeg recording artist Jaylene Johnson, award-winning Ottawa singer/songwriter Ana Miura, Toronto artist Martha Koll, songwriter/producer Chris Perry, singer/songwriter Nicole Hughes and producer/songwriter Tino Zolfo.
“We are excited to bring this special songwriting retreat again to Stouffville,” said York Region resident Don Quarles, executive director of the association. “Mysthaven is an incredible venue for these artists and songwriters to collaborate on new songs,”
SongWorks is designed to bring professional songwriters and artists together to create new Canadian songs for upcoming recording artist’s releases.
“SongWorks also brings together songwriters that might not otherwise have the chance to connect and collaborate,” Mr. Quarles said.
Financial assistance for SongWorks came from the Creators Assistance Component through the SOCAN Foundation.
