Get ready to get entertained, get educated and have fun.
The annual drowning prevention day, hosted by the town, takes place Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
This year’s theme is Old Tyme Picnic and boasts several activities for the whole family including potato sack races, face painting, story telling, water games at the outdoor pool and live music by local musicians.
Free draws will also be taking place with prizes to be won.
In keeping with the most important theme, drowning prevention, organizers and volunteers are handing out stickers, tattoos and brochures to educate you on the importance of swimming safely. You can also test yourself in the free Swim to Survive test.
It’s a great way for families to spend an afternoon said Brian O’Sullivan, one of the
organizers.
“It’s free and people don’t have to pay for parking,” he said. “It’s wonderful Stouffville provides things like this.”
Several musicians are providing live entertainment at no charge, including D’Arcy Wikham, Erwin Shack and Des McCann, finger-style guitarists, Terry Hart, Marie-Lynn Hammond, Richard Elliott and Philomene Hoffman.
The live music takes place in Memorial Park.
In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Lebovic Leisure Centre, at 30 Burkholder St. in the park.
