Town dragon boat takes gold at United Way festival

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville’s entry in this month’s York Region Dragon Boat races won the B Division consolation race gold medal with a time of 1.09.12.  

The 22-member Stingers squad raised $2,100 in sponsorships for the York Region United Way, which organized the event at Seneca College’s King Campus.

The festival raised $166,000,  a 55-per-cent increase from 2007. Toromont CAT was the title sponsor.

The 39 teams entered in this year’s race was also a new record.

This year’s campaign in the region has a  target of $9.5 million.
