Jason Hathaway found a good time to win his first-ever NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race.
With the final NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race being held last Saturday at the Kawartha Speedway near Peterborough with the running of the Dodge Dealers of Ontario 250, the Stouffville-based Team Red-EHR racing team driver took the checkered flag.
Driving his Snap-on Tools/Super 8 Dodge, Hathaway qualified in the 13th spot in a tough field of 26 cars for the 250-lap feature race.
Numerous times throughout the race Hathaway was the fastest car on the track. By lap 72, he had worked his way up NASCAR red flagged the rainy race and declared it complete, awarding Hathaway and the Team Red/EHR with their first NASCAR career win.
“This win is awesome,” Hathaway said. “We had a great car all race long and I love running this track. Our team worked hard this season to improve our on track performance and this win here shows what we are capable of.”
Stouffville’s Peter Gibbons drove his Canadian Tire/Mobil Super Chevrolet to a 15th-place finis after starting in sixth.
In the final series standings, Scott Steckley took first place with 2,070 points while Gibbons was eighth at 1,770 and Hathaway ninth at 1,736.
