Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery

Canada is a nation abundant in artistic diversity. The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery in Sutton showcases some of this country’s finest artists with an emphasis on local talent.

Since opening its doors in 2001, the Georgina Arts Centre has quickly established itself as one of the most acclaimed art galleries in the province.

The Georgina Arts Centre boasts an extensive public gallery of original works, a retail shop with a selection of beautiful arts and crafts as well as art supplies, a unique Native gallery, and a coffee house which is the perfect setting for poetry readings, music and meetings. It is also a teaching venue for various art classes and workshops for all ages and summer and March Break camps for kids.

Once inside you will be amazed by the lavish displays of spectacular paintings, pottery, stained glass, jewelry, hand woven creations, sculptures, photography and more.

In 2004, the Gallery gained worldwide recognition when it acquired the magnificent Smith-Chiarandini collection. This priceless permanent exhibit features over 110 landscape, portrait and still life paintings by renowned painter, Albert Chiarandini. Mr. Chiarandini, who was born in Italy and came to Canada at age 17, had his first exhibit with The Group of Seven in 1938 and went on to become known by some as “The Unknown Group of Seven Member”. This comprehensive menagerie of work was donated by Bruce Smith, a former student of Chiarandini who, famous in his own right, also painted and displayed with The Group of Seven.

The mission statement of the Georgina Arts Centre is to involve the community with the arts through exhibitions, education, programming and partnerships. It certainly exceeds this aspiration by also merging with it a true passion for the arts.

The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery is a registered non profit organization. It is a wonderful destination for school field trips, group tours or just a leisurely afternoon on your own or with a loved one.

Come experience a fervor for the arts. The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery is located at 149 High Street, Sutton and is open to the public Tuesday - Friday 10 am - 6 pm, Saturday 10 am - 4 pm and Sunday from noon - 4 pm.
