Fishing for family fun

This weekend is the perfect time to take your kids, rods and rails and head down to Fairy Lake. Don’t forget the worms, too.

Residents can try their luck at catching fish during the annual family fishing weekend.

“We want to introduce youngsters to the location and the sport,” said Wil Wegman, the Ministry of Natural Resources event co-ordinator. “We want to highlight places close to home where people can fish on a regular basis for the rest of the summer.”

Fairy Lake is one of 62 places in Ontario where no fishing licence is required to cast a line and fish.
“This might be the first time people visit Fairy Lake,” Mr. Wegman said. “And hope they discover fishing.”

For first timers, Aurora Bass Masters will be on hand to offer some one-on-one demonstrations.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is encouraging families to abide by conservation limits and practice catch-and-release fishing.
