Six high school students have gained at least $4,000 for their education, thanks to the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation.

The students are among the Excellence Awards winners honoured in Toronto late last month.

Three earned one-time local scholarships. Two got provincial and territorial awards and receive $4,000, renewable up to three times, for a possible total of $16,000.

One national award winner receives a $5,000 award, renewable up to three times for a possible total of $20,000.

The award recognizes university and college-bound students for achievements in leadership, innovation, academic performance and community service.

The foundation, created in 1998 by the federal government, gives out bursaries and scholarships until 2010, when its funding ends. Check out millenniumscholarships.ca for more information.
