Attractions
Markham Theatre for Performing Arts, the town's most prestigious entertainment venue, sees over 125,000 patrons pass through its doors each year. These visitors come for the variety of world-class performances, incredible acoustics, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere found at Markham Theatre.
The facilities are impressive. The auditorium seats over 550, but retains the intimacy of a smaller venue by ensuring that all seats are within 60 feet of the stage. The theatre is wheelchair accessible and headphones for the hearing impaired are available free of charge (alternatively, ear plugs are also available). The spacious lobby features the work of local artists and two bars for intermission refreshments. Backstage, dressing rooms and rehearsal space are ample. The beautifully well-lit rehearsal hall is one of many spaces in the theatre that serves as a setting for social gatherings, such as the theatre's own annual Fundraising Gala, this year featuring singer-songwriter Roch Voisine.
In addition to the Gala, Markham Theatre plays host to award winning dramatic, musical, and comedic performers, as well as presenting programmes intended for children. This season, theatre-goers get performances by Matt Dusk, New York's East Village Opera Company, David Usher, and James Deveine, the Guinness World Records' Fastest Dancer (to name a few). Markham Theatre is also a stop on the Just For Laughs Roadshow.
Markham Theatre for Performing Arts is located at 171 Town Centre Boulevard in Markham, on the Northwest corner of Highway 7 and Warden Avenue. For more information, call (905) 415-7537 or visit
