Nestled in the heart of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Applewood Farm Winery is a local treasure-trove of quality farm-fresh products. Run by the Passafiume family for nearly 30 years, the establishment began as one of the area's first “pick-your-own” strawberry and apple farms.
Today, in addition to offering nine varieties of apples, Applewood Farm has strawberry patches, pumpkins, corn stalks, and more. The farm also has a children's playground, a straw bale mountain, a petting zoo, and offers wagon rides, making it the ultimate family destination. The farm is the area's most popular destination for apple and strawberry picking, and with the opening of the winery, Applewood continues to provide something for all ages.
The Applewood Farm Winery opened its doors in September of the year 2000, and in the short time since has earned the praise of critics around the country. A chartered member of both Fruit Wines of Ontario and Canada, the winery offers visitors the opportunity to sample award-winning wines at the tasting bar, and have the chance to speak personally to the wine maker.
The fruit wines at Applewood are made from fruit harvested on the farm, and include many award winners. For example, the Evans Wild Blueberry Port took gold in the All-Canadian Wine Championships, and the Eloras Harvest Wine is currently nominated for Fruit Wine of the Year. These wines and more are available both at the farm itself and at the winery's online store, which tempts browsers with names such as Iced Black Forest Cherry Wine and Crazy 8 Hard Raspberry Cider.
Playing dual roles as both elite winery and fun family destination, Applewood Farm Winery is certainly worth investigating.
Applewood Farm Winery is located at 12442 McCowan Road, just minutes from Highway 404 in Stouffville. For more information, call (905) 642-4720 or visit
