The Aurora Opera Company brings music, dance, and theatre together with a goodly dose of community spirit to produce many high-level performances annually. With a reputation for quality in York Region and beyond, the company has staged 35 productions and 57 concerts in the past 11 years, often performing for the benefit of local charitable organizations or to assist the fundraising efforts of churches across Ontario.
The Aurora Opera Company was founded in 1994 by Sarah Kyle, who still serves as general director. Included in her list of qualifications are a Masters Degree in Operatic Performance, designation as an International European Voice Examiner, and a First Prize in the Luciano Pavarotti Opera Competition in Italy. Kyle, a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, leads the company in providing learning opportunities in addition to quality entertainment.
The Aurora Opera Company offers training to community members of all ages in voice technique, choreography, and stagecraft. From programs for complete novices to programs designed to complement the training of students already studying voice elsewhere, the company offers a program to cater to all levels of experience. With a focus on youth, the company takes mentoring young artists very seriously.
In the past the Town of Aurora has recognized the Aurora Opera Company with a Community Organization of the Year designation, fulfilling its role not only as a community resource but also as a source for quality theatre and concert performances.
