Attractions
A massive indoor climbing gym located in Newmarket, Of Rock and Chalk has the room to accommodate climbers of all levels of experience. There are over 46 different climbing routes and walls up to 37 feet high, and nine more walls are being constructed.
There are also bouldering areas and simulated rock faces. With highly trained staff and strict safety standards, Of Rock and Chalk is a safe and friendly atmosphere in which to develop your skills or try rock climbing for the first time.
The gym offers several different kinds of passes and programs. Day passes and bouldering passes are available for more experienced climbers who are familiar with belaying technique and required knots, while less experienced climbers must purchase supervised climb time.
Rock climbing courses are also available, with beginner courses teaching basic technique and advanced courses teaching more difficult methods such as crack climbing and lead climbing. Of particular interest to working parents, Of Rock and Chalk hosts after-school programs, March and winter break camps, P.A. day camps, and summer camps. Many students around the region enjoy the gym's school field trip programs, and the corporate team activities are an equal delight for adults.
Of Rock and Chalk is available for birthday parties and other special events, and can accommodate up to 60 climbers in its extensive facilities. The gym is also particularly popular with youth groups, on account of its Hang Time program that occurs on Saturday nights outside of business hours.
Of Rock and Chalk is located at 482 Ontario Street in Newmarket. For more information, call (905) 895-ROCK (7625) or visit www.rockandchalk.com
