Attractions
A traditional naturist park that combines modern comforts with untouched wilderness, Bare Oaks is a picturesque, family-oriented facility. The park is open year round to provide a haven to naturists and a healthy, active environment for children. Situated on 50 acres of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the park features 19 acres of conservation land and 13 acres of untouched forest. A lake, two ponds, two streams, and a river complete the idyllic setting.
The park's facilities include motel rooms, a lounge, two saunas, a whirlpool and swimming pool, a laundromat and more. The campsites -- more than 100 -- have water and electrical hook-ups. For those who prefer something a little less rustic, Bare Oaks also features wireless Internet connections and satellite TV, in addition to offering many spa services such as massage and facials. The park hosts many social events, including the upcoming Greater Toronto Naturist Volleyball Tournament.
Naturism, a movement that began in the 19th century in reaction to industrialization and urbanization, promotes wholesomeness, respect, and a healthy attitude towards the human body. The most obvious aspect of naturism is complete social nudity, but encompasses a much broader social perspective.
The park that would become Bare Oaks was founded in 1973, but would not be called Bare Oaks until 2006 when it was purchased by the Deschênes family. The park was renamed as a clever reference to the owners' names (Deschênes is French for “of the oaks”).
With a code of conduct focussing on mutual respect and a healthy social atmosphere, Bare Oaks encourages family participation on the campsite. The park is always welcoming to visitors, and staff and more experienced members are an excellent source of guidance to those who may be new to naturism. A gender balance is maintained at Bare Oaks to ensure the comfort of all.
Answers to questions, whether they concern the effect of nudity on children or something as simple as sunburn, are available from the staff and on the park's website.
Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park is located at 20237 Kennedy Road, between Woodbine Avenue and Highway 48 in the Village of Sharon, East Gwillimbury. For more information, call (905) 473-6060 or visit www.bareoaks.ca.
