Majestic and vibrant butterflies are a breathtaking sight. There are about 17,500 species of butterflies in the world and approximately 150 in Ontario.

Many of these are on display at Butterflies and Blooms Butterfly Conservatory in Baldwin. The 2100 sq. ft. indoor habitat abounds with natural vegetation, live butterflies, moths, skippers (distinctive by their antenna), insects and arachnids, as well as plenty of information for visitors.

Among the native butterfly species are the Viceroy, Baltimore, Monarch, Red Admiral and Fritillary. Moths include the Luna and Catocala.

Tropical butterflies are new to Butterflies and Blooms in 2008. These graceful creatures, such as the blue Morpho butterfly, come from as far away as Central America and Asia.
