Outdoor festivals have been attracting music enthusiasts for years. Nothing says summer like listening to some incredible live music under a blue sky with friends.
Many of these events highlight a specific style of music. What makes Kingfest unique is that it showcases the finest in Canadian talent from a broad spectrum of genres including pop, country, roots and blues.
Kingfest began as a small indoor event in 2005. By 2007 it had burgeoned into a 3 day outdoor extravaganza held in June at Seneca’s King Campus. This drew a crowd of more than 4,000 and it is rapidly becoming one of the province’s most reputable music festivals.
Some of the nation’s most respected musicians and vocalists have taken the Kingfest stage such as Prairie Oyster, Jim Cuddy Band, Bruce Cockburn and Sarah Harmer as well as many other up and comers.
Kingfest also includes an artisan village, children’s area, a wide selection of delicious food and beverages and more. It is a wonderful time for the entire family.
Kingfest is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and is non-profit. It is a member of the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals as well as Festivals and Events Ontario.
This year also saw Kingfest add a winter concert series held at Newmarket Theatre featuring such artists as Murray McLauchlan and The Sadies.
Kingfest is certainly living up to its vision of “connecting the community through music and to be recognized as one of Ontario’s most alluring music festivals”.
